NPR

NPR produces a series of special interviews for broadcast during the week before the National Day of Listening every year.

The Corporation for National Community Service (CNCS)

CNCS helped to boost participation in the 2009 National Day of Listening among elected officials, national and local service organizations.

The American Library Association (ALA)

ALA helped to engage libraries across the country to participate in the 2009 National Day of Listening.

The Carnegie-Knight News 21 Initiative

Journalism students at Syracuse University and Arizona State University interviewed veterans for the 2009 National Day of Listening and created the Veterans Listening Project website.

The National Center for Media Engagement

The National Center for Media Engagement helped public radio and TV stations participate in the National Day of Listening 2009 by hosting a webinar that introduced their members to various kinds of National Day of Listening programming.

Connecticut

Forty freshman in Fairfield, CT conducted National Day of Listening interviews in 2009 as part of Fairfield University’s U.S. Diversity English Composition curriculum.

Georgia

Atlanta Girl Scouts visited their local StoryCorps recording booth in Atlanta, GA to learn about oral history and to prepare to interview family members for the 2009 National Day of Listening.

Missouri

The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration invited young people in grades 4 through 8 to interview and write about their family storykeepers as part of StoryCorps’ 2009 National Day of Listening.

New York

The New York Public Library hosted a special event in 2009 featuring a National Day of Listening tutorial and stories from local artists.

Pennsylvania

Penn State Public Broadcasting created a web page featuring interviews conducted by WPSU reporters each morning during Morning Edition in the week leading up to the National Day of Listening 2009. WPSU also ran National Day of Listening on-air promos and invited radio listeners to send us their stories, which we will consider for broadcast.

Tennesee

Williamson County Public Library hosted a storytelling event featuring local raconteurs as part of the National Day of Listening 2009.

Vermont

Vermont Public Radio celebrated the 2009 National Day of Listening by producing a series of interviews conducted by VPR on-air personalities.
